Dr. Douglas John is an award-winning artist and art professor, based in Mumbai. Hailing from Solapur, he came to Mumbai to study at the Sir J. J. School of Art at the age of sixteen, and has since been inspired by the spirit and diversity of Mumbai. The experience of space, form and light in the urban metropolis inspires much of his work. His work and research in diverse media using painting, video, and sculpture are significant manifestations of his career in art practice. Alongside his artistic practice, he is also a senior professor at Sir J. J. School of Art, and has visitinglectures in multiple universities. Dr. John’s work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in India and abroad. He has won numerous awards for his art, including the RajyaPuraskar (State Award) in painting, and the National Achievement Award for Kala Ratna. He is also a member of the Bombay Art Society, the Lalit Kala Akademi, and is an advisor at Dot Line Space.
