Dr. Shubanand Jog

Dr. Shubanand Jog is a professor at Sir J. J. Institute of Applied Art, Mumbai. In a career spanning 30+ years of teaching and designing, he has contributed heavily to the fields of Indian calligraphy, typography and design. Having graduated from Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Art, Mumbai, with a BFA in 1988, he has worked with multiple Indic scripts in calligraphy and font design. He has taught at Sir J. J. Institute of Applied Art, his alma mater for over twenty five years. Dr. Jog’s work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in India and abroad. He has won numerous awards for his work, including the National Award for Calligraphy, the Bombay Art Society’s Gold Medal for Typography, and the Lalit Kala Akademi’s Award for Excellence in Applied Art. He is a passionate advocate for the preservation of traditional Indian calligraphy and typography, and he is working to revive interest in these art forms. Dr. Jog is a member of the Bombay Art Society, the Lalit Kala Akademi, and the Indian Association of Calligraphers; and is involved with Aksharaya and Typo Day conferences as a core member.
